Folks, I'm stumped. I've finally found a network driver file for my laser printer, and I want to install it, but I can't figure out how.
Right now I'm using a more "generic" GIMP-Print/foomatic driver that supports similar printers, but not my specific model, so I can't adjust things like paper source, envelope margins, and so on. The printer is a Samsung ML-1430, and I'm using the ML-1220 driver, part of a package that supports about a dozen Samsung printers that I got from Linuxprinting.org. I got the new driver from there too.
Here's the problem: the driver package that I'm running now came as part of an installable package (samsung-gdi-foomatic-1.0.ppc.dmg), but the new driver is just the .ppd file, so I don't know how to install it. I've tried just putting it in the correct directory (Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj) and while the new driver shows up in the list of available printer drivers, it doesn't work.
I have installed the lastest version of GIMP-Print, and it hasn't made any difference.
On a side note, I'm somehow locked out of the CUPS browser interface page (Localhost:651). No matter what user name and password I use (and YES, I'm using the correct password for each and every user name, including root), it won't authenticate me. Anyone know how to beat this beast into submission? Or even why it's doing this?
Thanks all.
