Scenario:

• 1 DSL connection shared between 4 users [3 Macs and 1 PC] with a D-link wired router.

• One user has a Linksys .b wireless router which gets coverage in 50% of the house.

Question:

If we bought a Linksys .g router would this work to extend wireless coverage to the rest of the house despite the different standards and the proliferation of different equipment? Any other routers that you'd recommend over the Linksys?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know there have been a million posts like this but someone out there has got to have experience with a similar configuration...

Check the specs on the router you plan to buy. Most .g routers are backwards compatible with .b -- many even have a setting to make it work in ".b only" mode.

If you are buying an access point, you can probably set it up to be a range extender. If you are buying one of the cheap wireless routers, you're going to be stuck with two different networks.
