hello all:

i'm curious if anyone knows a way to get the WAN IP address for my airport base station programatically (i.e. through AppleScript, perl script, etc). by the WAN IP address, this would be the dynamic IP address that you're assigned by your DSL or cable modem connection. the purpose would be to be able to ftp into my home, knowing the IP address assigned to me from my service provider.

there would need to be a script or daemon running on one of my local machines that's in contact with the base station and emailing me my IP address or uploading it to some place.

thanks!

Check out the 3rd perl script Here

I know nothing about perl, so I'm only guessing this is what you need.

Also, take note that there are a few pre-made OS X apps (look around Versiontracker or MacUpdate) that will do what you need (I know that before I had a static IP I used one that would automatically update a webpage or send an email whenever my IP changed. Can't remember what that one was now to save my life.

You might have a look at some of the dynamic dns services like:

http://www.dyndns.com
http://www.dyndns.org

or go to http://www.versiontracker.com and search for "dynamic dns"

Also google for "dynamic dns"
