Here's the problem: I can't connect to my DLink Router DI-514 wirelessly from my iBook's airport card, although it connects through the ethernet port on my iBook and it works with my roommate's PCs--wirelessly and via ethernet port.

The odd thing is this router is an exact replacement of the router that was working a few weeks ago when we had the exact same setup (except that my iMac was connected to the router via the ethernet port) until a thunderstorm fried the router and the iMac's ethernet port.

The airport card must not be the problem because I can access the internet through my girlfriend's wireless router with no problems.

On my system I get a signal in Internet Connect, System Prefs shows the router's IP and my iBook's DHCP-assigned IPs (a different one each for the direct connect and for the wireless connection), and I can connect wirelessly to the network through the icon/drop-down menu in the title bar. It will even allow me in using a key when WEP is activated.

But I can't get to any webpage, including the router's configuration page.

I have OS X.2.8 and the router's latest firmware (July 2004) installed.

What could this possibly be? A bad router? Any ideas?

See if there is a setting in the DLink setup page for Long or Short Preamble and set it to Long Preamble. It should be under the Advanced Tab. Hit the Performance button.

Actually, I will have a good weekend as it is my birthday, and I am anticipating a bottle of sixteen year old Lagavulin single malt scotch!

Glad to be of help.
