I'm trying to get my HWN Transport wifi router to share a cable modem connection here in the UK. My current set up is cable connected to router; Apple Powerbook connected to router by means of PCMCIA wireless card - all works fine. Or so I thought.
The first problem is that I can't connect to the router's config page. If I unplug the router from the modem, I get an IP address in the range 169.254.51.xxx where xxx is more often than not 239. I SHOULD be able to connect to the router on 192.168.0.1 - but I can't. System prefs tell me my IP address, a subnet address of 255.255.0.0 but no router IP!
When I plug the modem in, this all changes. My IP goes to 62.xxx.xxx.xxx, and a router address of the same format appears. This leads me to think that the modem is assigning my IP address, and the router is working in bridge mode, right? I would check, but like I said - I can't connect to the router's config and I can't see any way of obviously resetting the router.
Hopefully when this problem is sorted, I should be able to add more laptops to the wireless network...
Please can anyone help me?..
