It seems that lately every Apple update that I install breaks something.
10.3.5 broke the USB hub in my DVI-ADC converter so that I have to unplug and then plug it in again every time my PowerBook restarts.
Now the latest AirPort update seems to have killed my internet connection.
Whenever I wire directly into the network port in my dorm (ethernet), everything works fine. Everything was working great when I plugged in an AirPort Express to bridge the connection wirelessly as well until a couple of weeks ago when the connection started to waiver at random intervals. Now it's at the point where I can make one internet request and receive a page before the internet connection dies. I have a full signal and my access to the LAN is fine, but the internet connection just goes to nothing after about 30 seconds.
The network itself uses DHCP. Whether I have the Express routing one IP or simply bridging from the wired network, I get the same result: connection works for first web page accessed, then dies immediately. I can watch the receive speed in MenuMeters drift from tens of kilobyters to hundreds of bytes to nothing.
When I was at home last weekend using the airport network there (wireless b), I didn't have any of this kind of trouble.
I've tried everything I can think of to fix the problem: changing various settings on both machines, maintenance scripts, broadband optimizers, etc. Right now I'm just aggravated and considering erasing and reinstalling the entire OS.
Any advice as to what I might try before resorting to that?
Thanks,
