I am trying to setup my rev C PB 12" with my linksys router. I have a WRT54G router running the latest firmware. Whenever I try to connect to my network it comes up with this error, "the wireless network does not support the requested encryption method". When I use WEP it works perfectly. I would really appreciate any help, thanks is advance.

I'm using the following settings:

WPA Pre-shared Key
TKIP
some passphrase
Group Renewal: 3600 seconds

What are your settings?

On the Powerbook side, I connect with WPA Personal and the same passphrase.

I have the same exact settings for the router and on the PB side. Did I have to update any software or firmware for the PB. I recently purchased my PB and sort of new to OS X, and have not yet updated most of the software. Do I need to brodcast the SSID to make it work? Thanks in advance for any help.

Updates on the Airport Extreme card may be necessary although if you purchased it recently, I would have thought it would be up to date.

I'm at:

AirPort Card Information:

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 3.4.2b1 (3.50.37.p4)

(under About This Mac/More Info/Airport) which you might want to double-check.

Broadcasting SSID is not necessary; however, you do have to make sure that the SSID you set your router to much match the name that you are typing in on your Mac.

Good luck.

Thanks legacyb4 for all the help you've given, I really appreciate it. Oddly enough I have the same configurations as you do (firmware version of the AE card). I made sure that the SSID was exactly the same and the password was the same also. I even made up a simple password to see if it would work, that didn't work. I just can't understand why WEP works and WPA doesn't. I'll probably have to google the answer...Thanks for your help though...
