Hi there ...

I have a small network of Macs in my house that use DHCP to get an IP address. My new ISP is giving me a static IP address which is cool becasue this way I will be able to access data on my server at home, from work.

What I need to know is this.

My DLS line goes into my Airport Base Station ... to which i have my server connected.

Does the Server get the static IP? or do I assign it to the base station?

If it has to be assigned to the base station, can I access my server at ##.##.##.## ? or am I out of luck?

If the IP address can be applied to the server ... do I leve the airport base station using DHCP as well as my PowerbooK?

Thanks in advance

Gordon

The IP address will refer to the outside network port of the base station. Your computer will need an inside address (inside your local network), and that might as well be provided via DHCP from your APBS. If you want traffic from outside your network, then you will need to set the APBS to forward certain ports (say port 80 for web, etc) to the inside computer.

If you want web access to your server, assign it a static IP on your internal LAN and forward port 80 to that in your ABS.
