I need to protect one computer with a router/firewall on the campus network. If I can do it with a router I can also use the other ports to run some other computer for TeamMacNN

I have seen those small buissness FW routers but I think they are a overkill as only one computer will use the router, the other 3 runing Fold@home will use the net very little.

I have been looking into using those cheap broadband routers. While intended to be used with a modem upstream they are connected with a ethernet cable so why should it matter if it is a ethernet cable running with a IP from a modem or a hub?

I looked in the manual and it looks like I should just set the IP adress and mask in the router config and be up and running??

Anyone tried this?

A cheap cable/dsl router is exactly what you want.
