We have a small (10 PCs, 10 Macs) business network with a few servers that are windows based (wish i knew which versions etc.)

in jaguar, connecting to the windows servers thru afp was wonderful, fast, stable.

in panther, connecting to the windows servers thru afp sucks. royally.

in panther, connecting to the windows servers thru smb is great, until we need to copy fonts or similar data. the meta-data gets squarshed and all files turn to generic "exec" files. not an option, unless there is a specific configuration that will fix this.

thoughts? recommendations?

What happens in Panther when you try AFP? I use AFP in Panther to connect to a SnapServer and am pretty happy with it (though the server's AFP version is VERY old).

well,

the process of displaying what is on the server is what sucks. i can actually work across the network, saving normally. But when I actually try to browse the network through the finder using afp, it crawls in panther. the exact same scenario in jaguar does not produce this slowdown. in fact, it's almost delightful.

How many machines are now on Panther? How exactly are you connecting to the server (what steps do you take to mount it)?
