Connect to internet via novell proxy?

I need to connect to the internet over a LAN running novell border manager to control internet access. The proxy is 172.16.0.6. I can access stuff not controlled by the proxy, such as iChat, FTP, and LAN servers (inc HTTP), but no http outside of the lan. I tried every setting in the proxy pane, but I still get the "unable to connect to https://172.16.0.6:445/... message. Anyone know how to do this?
