hi everyone

i'm curious about airport extreme compatibility. i realize this may be a silly question but i just want to make extra super double safety sure. if i install an airport extreme card in my g4 dt will it be compatible with 3rd party 802.11g access points, for example a wireless dsl modem?

are there any particular problems i should be aware of?

i have tried searching xlr8yourmac archives but none of the links seem to be working.

searched for "802.11g"

some of the subject summaries are reaffirming that niggling shadow of doubt for me.

thanks for any help that can be offered

should be.

I'm using a Linksys Wireless G router that connects to my cable box (NTL in the UK) and provides wireless access for my Powerbook with AirPort Extreme and the old 8600 with it's conventional ethernet leads.

Most routers should work as the 802.11g is a standard.

thanx mud

i felt it was a redundant thing to ask.

i don't suppose you know how the signal would travel up stairs and down a hall... approx 10 - 12m. a freind of mine once told me he was able to access wireless dsl from the business next door to his house on an emac. i am guessing the signal didn't pass through the bricks and mortar... perhaps out through the window?

the signal will travel through bricks and mortar, but suffers in range when it has to.
if you want to surf outside or from a distance, put the router on a windowledge so it only travels through glass.
Large aquariums and bodies of water also cut down the range of a wireless router.

In your example, it should work ok, but i can't guarantee it
