Hi guyz,

I am soon purchasing a 12" ibook as my very first mac (waiting for next update before purchase!) and have some concerns about my internet. I will try and explain as best I can.

Upstairs I have a pc which has AOL broadband. It is connected using a USB modem.

I will be keeping this setup as is hopefully, to use pc as gaming machine. However, I want to be able to use my iBook when I get it downstairs or in the garden to access the internet.

What do I need to get this to work. Would some form of wireless network card in the PC allow this? I.e. setup internet connection sharing on the PC (my pc is on 24/7 and is always 'signed in' to AOL broadband)! would this work?

I would I need one of those routers or airports! i've heard not much works with AOL broadband

please help as I would love to be able to use my laptop all over the house when I get it!

As long as you have a 802.11g base station (eg linksys or Airport) and your computers are equipped with Airport (or 802.11g PC) cards, you should be fine.

Some base stations permit the main computer to be "hard-wired" to the internet while simultaneously taking care of the main connection feed.

I'd tried AE with USB type modem to my PB and doesn't work but it's working fine with RJ45 ethernet cable, does your modem has this port? otherwise you might want to ask AOL for compability using router which they only use ethernet port (so far that I know).

This is sorta related ... dunno if my experience helps

I attempted sharing my adsl connection between my PB and sisters ibm thinkpad a couple hours ago. PB is connected through ethernet to my adsl modem, and I set up internet sharing over airport.

Finally got it working after I disabled WEP. With WEP on I can't seem to connect on the thinkpad ... anyone have any ideas? I'm not keen on leaving my internet shared without encryption!
