I have an airport base and an airport express for my wireless network. I need to set up an 802.11b network, and it's currently configured for 802.11g with 128 bit encryption. I need 40 bit encryption. Can one or the other be configured for what I need?

Ideally I'd like to keep my laptop on 802.11g, and my airport express on 802.11b. Is this possible?

To explain further, I have a new device I want to connect to my wireless network, but it only supports 802.11b at 40 bit encryption. My PowerBook is doing just fine on 802.11g at 128 bit encryption, and I don't want to change that.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can mix and match encryption schemes on any wireless device. You'll either have to set everything to "wireless equivalent privacy" (WEP) at 40 or 64 bits (they're the same thing, but just stated differently-honest), or give up on the device that only supports 40 bit encryption.

What is the new device, anyway? It may be that there is an update of some kind that will allow it to run at 128 bit encryption.
