Hi all,

I upgraded to a 1Mbit connection a couple of weeks ago and my max dl rate suddenly jumped to a sustainable 120KB/sec! 'Twas cool.

Before that I had a 512Kbit connection, and my max dl rate was 60KB/sec (obviously).

Problem: for the last two days I've been maxing at 60KB/sec for some reason. This is only happening on my G5, my iBook is still able to reach the max 120KB/sec, so the connection itself is still at 1Mbit.

Anybody have any idea as to why my G5 is only using 1/2 of the available bandwidth? (the iBook is not usually on the network, the G5 has exclusive use).

Thanks in advance for any help with this very confusing situation,

Chas

Never mind everyone, mystery solved. The solution is an interesting one:

Somebody close by has activated an open wi-fi adsl modem. I had airport running on the G5 to communicate with the iBook, and airport on the G5 was sitting at a higher networking priority than the ethernet connection. When my neighbor activated their wireless adsl connnection, my G5 grabbed on to that and thus I was suddenly using a 512 ADSL connection instead of my 1Mbit connection.

Strange stuff.
