Hey all.

I had a question about Airport,

Here my setup

2 Powerbook pismos with os 9.0.4
2 airport cards installed
a snow dual ethernet base station

and a PS2 setup to go online under LAN

3 things connecting to the NET....

Here's my question and my problem: When I go to the Airport Admin Utility and configure my base station it only lets me select 1 or 2 mbs under multicast rate, but not 5 or 11mbs.

But if I change the base station density to high then it lets me select 11mbs

Why can't I select 11mbs, plus, I'm only using one base station on the low setting?

I just wanted to use the 11mbs setting like Apple advertises....

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What use are you putting multicast to? For basic networking, you don't need to worry about that at all. In fact, unless you really need to deal with multicast, setting it to a high value will reduce your wireless range: "Enabling the Base Station Density and multicast rate settings will limit the effective range of each AirPort Base Station's network and will decrease the effective distance that a client can be from that Base Station to less than 50 m." It seems that multicast is only needed when distributing video-though I could be misinterpreting the text I've read.

You want the rate for everything else to be 11Mbps, or "auto" if that's supported-I don't have an OS 9 version of AirPort software to play with right now.
