Hey

I am thinking bout buying a airport express to do air tunes. My question is can the airport express be utilized to extend my dlink router? If not.. can I use my dlink router for internet access and simutaneously use airtunes? Can airtunes be used with out internet access?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before.. I tried to do some searching for answers.. but was unable to find answers.

Thanks for your help

Nope, as far as I know, "extending" wireless networks isn't really a standard yet, thus all vendors implement it differently and it's really not feasible right now.

Yes, I use a Linksys cable/DSL wireless router for my internet stuff, and my Airport Express plugs into the router via its one Ethernet port. My Powerbook streams to airtunes via ethernet, while other computers in my house access the internet via 802.11g. It works beautifully.
Can airtunes be used with out internet access?
Sure thing, man.

To the OP, I suggest you read the following FAQ at apple.com that will probably answer 100% of your questions regarding the Airport Express.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108038

In the meantime, to answer your three questions:

1. No, an AX can only be used to extend or repeat an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station or another AX. It will NOT work with non-Apple 802.11g wireless products for extending or repeating the signal (WDS).

2. If you have an AEBS as your router, then yes, the AX can be extending/repeating that wireless network while at the same time being used for Airtunes.

3. Yes, the AX can stream Airtune exclusive of there being any live Internet connection.

No. The WRT54G can be used as a wireless client, but as noted by SWFan, non-Apple wireless products will not extend your AX.
