I am about to upgrade my original 400Mhz TiBook for one of the 1.5Ghz 12" PBooks. My question: How is the wireless range? My TiBook's range was so bad I eventually went to a PC Card and have been very happy. But the 12" PBook doesn't have a PC slot and I don't really want to get the 15" just for that feature.........unless Apple has never fixed the limited range of Airport.

I've heard the iBooks are much better, mainly because they do not have a metal case. But I don't want a white computer.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Kevin

From what I've read and seen, Apple learned their lesson with the TiBook. The AlBook seems to have much better wireless range-they did something to the way the antenna is positioned or the amount of aluminum around it, and that cleared up the problem.

The range is not that great on campus. I attend a large state university. For some reason they decided not to put wireless throughout the library of all places (go figure). When I'm up doing research in the government documents library and I want to use both wireless and paper I cannot. My old Dell (with a 54g Belkin Card) could easily pick up a wireless signal up in the docs library - four floor above the base station in the library lounge. It wasn't that strong but I was able to access what I needed to.

If you find a good wireless USB adapter with a high MW rating please let me know. www.macwireless.com does not plan to release a 200mw USB card so I guess I'm out of luck for now.

They appear to have learned a lesson. The range on my new PB is much greater than my TIPB.
