My previous PowerBook and my bro's PowerBook (same model) get 90% packet loss when connected to the Linksys. My current PowerBook (Rev C?) doesn't have this problem. However, my AirPort Express DOES have this problem, which is really annoying.

Neither of my bro's PCs have the packetloss problem and neither does his Titanium PowerBook.

The only "fix" I've found was to force the Linksys into 1Mbps mode. I hate that fix because it completely defeats the purpose of having the 802.11g and is actually slower than my internet connection.

Has anyone else been able to solve this without slowing the Linksys down?

Thanks.

Edit: Compared firmware version with my bro's, and they look identical. Still haven't a clue why it does this.

More details, please. In particular, what model of Linksys device are you dealing with? You say the two PBs in question are the same model-what model? It would also be helpful to know what security settings you have on the Linksys box. All the other settings (and your type of broadband connection too) would be useful as well.

That is awfully peculiar.

Tell me all about the SETTINGS for both the fast and slow PowerBooks' AirPort cards. Is there ANYTHING that's different?

They're identical from what we can tell.

Above is a link to someone with the exact same problem. The general consensus is that Linksys sucks and the guy should get a non-Linksys router.

Unfortunately it's well after my return date and I'm poor as hell right now. I'd really like to find a solution to this problem. So far it looks like it's strictly a Linksys thing.

Horray for standards.

A lot of people like to trash Linksys online. Funny how they have such a big market share...

Scientifically speaking, I don't think it CAN be the router, since it works with several computers, but three specific computers have problems. Since two of them are apparently identical, I think there's some setting somewhere that is causing them to have this problem. And the third computer may or may not have the same problem.

Again, what are ALL of the settings on your slow PowerBook and your fast PowerBook?

OK, my brother reinstalled his Airport update and now his laptop seems to be working fine. So now our laptops and PCs are all working fine with the router.

However, the Airport Express is still fubar. I updated the firmware to 6.1.1 but it didn't do anything.

When I set it up to connect to an existing wireless network using 40/64-bit WEP, the light goes green and stays green. However, the AE disappears from my Airport Admin utility and I can no longer modify the settings.

When I launch iTunes it'll see the "Kenwood" speaker in the drop list for shared speakers, but it always fails to connect to it.

I'm gonna take it into the Apple Store tomorrow. Maybe I'm missing something. Argh.
