This uses 802.11b technology, supposedly less secure. If I just use for normal web browsing, am in any danger from hackers, etc?

The best encryption available on a Graphite AirPort Base Station is 128-bit WEP. This is not very secure, but it beats nothing. If you use it properly, it is fair protection. Disable file sharing and you're fairly well protected from prying and poking while you're surfing.

Macs are very secure from prying eyes. However, you can find great deals on wireless routers, just by looking around in the newspaper ads or using rebates (keep on eye on dealmac.com and dealsontheweb.com). $20 or less, sometimes free after rebates...

Any 3rd party router with external antennas would automatically have 20% better wireless range than the graphite. Time to switch?
