It looks to be disabled by default. If I had done this on my PC it would have been rendered useless in hours. ;-(

I'm aware of the dearth of malware for the Mac, but should I just go ahead and enable the firewall on my iBook anyway? I'm connecting through my linksys router which has NAT, but does /not/ have a built-in hw firewall.

I have Thunderbird setup using 2-3 different ports for email and news. Would I have to specify which ports to leave open?

Thanks for putting up w/ all of the newbie questions,

Chris

For outgoing applications (like Thunderbird), you won't have to explicitly open up any ports on the firewall since it blocks incoming traffic except for default, enabled services. If you add something new (Yahoo Supercam, for example) that is not part of the default set, you will have to punch holes.

Cheers.
