My setup is a Linksys WRT54G and a Linksys WRE54G Range Expander.

New 15" Powerbook.

The router is of course 192.168.1.1. The Range Expander takes as default 192.168.1.240.

I want to lock down both the router and the expander so that only myself and my housemates can log in. Do I need WEP/WPA to do this? If I password protect the router, how does the range extender connect to it?

The .pda users manual is pretty worthless. I've tried every permutation that I can think of- most result in my pb being unable to connect to the range extender.

Can anyone throw me a bone here?

Thanks!

First make sure that you have the latest firmware from linksys. Second disable the WEP encryption on the WRT54G. Click the auto-configuration button on the WRE54G. Enable WEP on the WRT54G. Go to the setup page for the WRE54G at 192.168.1.240. Enable WEP encryption and you should be safe.
Be out of trouble & into what works.

Thanks, I'll try this when I get home tonight! (Seems pretty simple... I must have tried to over engineer it :-)
