Hi,
I've got an external LaCie harddrive connected via firewire to my G4 Notebook, and I'd like to be able to access it over the network from my PC. Is this possible?

You just need to establish the SBM sharepoint (and turn on Windows File Sharing). The easiest way of doing this is with SharePoints.

Awesome! Thanks, that's just what I was looking for.

Very odd that this functionality isn't built into OS X.

Actually, it is, there is just no GUI to configure it. You can enable a web version (for the SMB side), but this is just easier. Apple does have a full GUI that does this for MacOS X Server, so they are sort of keeping the two separated this way.
