Good Morning Everyone. I am hoping that someone can help me out. I am trying to configure a few Cisco Routers through the console port of the router. I have the ribbon cable and the adapter that came with the router. The routers are working fine - I am able to configure them on my Pee Cee laptop. I am taking a CCNE class and I would much rather practice with my Mac than a PeeCee.

I thought I saw a posting on this forum, but I couldn't find it. The posting I saw recommeded using Zterm along with the USB/Serial adapter manufactured by Keyspan ( r-232 DB-9). I have downloaded Zterm and purchased the Keyspan adapter.

I have everything connected and both the Keyspan USB/Serial adapter drivers and Zterm installed. As far as I can tell, the USB adapter is working properly. The Keyspan application sees the adapter and so does Zterm (Holding down the shift key while Zterm is launching gives you the option to choose the serial adapter).

So this is what I am seeing. When I am in Zterm, I don't see the router responding or sending any output. I am also not able to type any commands.

In the posting I saw a few weeks ago, I though I saw the recommended configuration settings for Zterm. Of course I didn't save the posting so now I am stuck. I am wondering if this is the piece I am missing.

Can anyone please shed some light on this and give me some much needed assistance? Also, if anyone has been able to do this, can you please give any experiences or recommedations?

As always, thanks to everyone!

Don

If anyone is interested, I did find the settings for the connection in Zterm.

Here they are (As required by Cisco IOS):

Baud Rate 9600
8 data bits
no parity
1 stop bit
no flow control

I confirmed that this configuration works.
