my mail, safari, and firefox are all having problems loading web pages and checking mail...this is cable internet, i tried both ethernet and wireless...but acquisition seems to work fine...any idea what my problem could be...?

You on Comcast? They've been having that problem off and on all week. Seems to only affect port 80.

It is almost certainly NOT your Mac-unless you've just messed around with it pretty seriously and didn't bother to mention it in your post.

When you're having a connectivity problem and one process or program works it looks like your connection is fine. But that's not always the case. My advice is to power cycle your modem and router. While this is not 100% guaranteed to fix the problem it will certainly eliminate those two parts of your network as problem areas.

Most times when something like this happens it IS either the modem or the router, and power cycling (turn off-wait a minute (as in 60 seconds)-turn back on) reboots the devices and fixes the problem. If it doesn't, it's time to call your ISP's tech support.
