I have been a Mac user for 15+ years, but am a wireless newbie. I have 3 computers & soon to buy a laptop. Here is what I would like to do and I don't know if it is possible. I want to keep my G5 (OS X) & my basement arcade/itunes G3 computer (OS X) hard wired, but go wireless with my daughters G3 iMac (OS 9.2.2 - because of her learning games)) & a laptop to be named later (G4 OS X). Can I buy a good router that will allow this combination of wireless/hardwire? I have the adapter card for my daughters G3 iMac, but need to buy the original airport card - I think ? Im sure this can be done, but am unclear about the following:
• airport vs. airport extreme -the daughters iMac can only use the original airport card, right ?
• Will the OS X & OS 9.2.2 cause any issues ?
• Can you recommend a wireless router that has great range, easy to set-up & will allow atleast 3 ports for a hard wired network ?
Thanks so much... Kenny

I've had good luck with D-link products.

Anymore, most brands are about the same. Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, SMC, etc. all make wired/wireless router combos.

Depends on what CRT iMac she has. The very first series of iMacs do NOT have Airport card slots, and the only way to make them wireless is to either get a USB wireless dongle or a wireless bridge (connects to the computer via wired Ethernet).
Assuming her iMac is one capable of accepting an Airport card, then yes, you will need to get the original Apple Airport card (not the Airport Extreme card, just a regular Airport card). Apple no longer makes the regular Airport card, so your best bet is either eBay, or searching around the Internet for places that might have some old stock lying around.

Airport Extreme is backwards compatible with Airport. So if you had an Airport Extreme router, it would work with your daughter's computer equipped only with an Airport card. And yes, your daughter's iMac will only take the original Airport card.

No.

This D-Link wireless router will do the trick.
