Just bought a powerbook G4 and I can't seem to be able to print with my wireless router's print server.
After clicking on "Add printer", then "IP Printing", under the list of printers available, I could not find my printer (HP deskjet 970cxi).
I went to download the driver from the HP website but after downloading, I still can't find my printer in the list. However, one of the printer shown on the list was "HP deskjet 900 series" so i tried that.
Still it does not work. I am not sure what the problem is. Is it my printer driver which cannot be found or is it the "printer location" which I did not fill in correctly. It should be the wireless router's address (eg. 168.192.123.253) shouldn't it ?
Please help.

Hello, my friend. I'm a fellow Sam!
Are you using Panther (OS X 10.3.x) or Jaguar (OX X 10.2.x)? - Make sure your printer and printer server are both ON when you do this (I can't tell you how many times I have troubleshot these things only to discover hours later that one or the other was either powered off or not connected).
- If you check its user manual, there's usually a default IP address (often 192.168.1.1) and a default userid/password for administration (e.g.,"admin" will a null password).
- Once you've made it to the print server's web interface, make sure the printer in question has a defined name (like "HPDeskJet1" or something like that). You probably want to avoid spaces when chooosing that name.
- Also make sure that the print server is on the same subnet as your client computer (typically 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0). These can be set by accessing the print server's web interface.
- Next, when you try the Add Printer dialog, select "HP IP Printing" instead of merely "IP Printing" and try the Manual Mode, then enter 168.192.123.253.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I just got a Mac with OS X 10.4. I have a Netgear router and a Canon S750.
I can add the printer, but the Canon S70 is not on the list of printers.
When I send a print job, it connects enough to turn the printer on, but it doesn't print.
I've connected the printer directly and that works.
I've downloaded the print driver from both the Canon S750 CD and the Canon site (the updated driver for Tiger), but it still doesn't show up on the list (I guess it doesn't work that way).
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Ethan

Well, your Mac at a minimum needs two things to print properly: the correct driver and the IP address of the print server, which I believe in the case of Netgear is the same IP address as the router itself. Try adding a networked (or "IP") printer with an address identical to the "default gateway" in your network settings.

Thanks. I'm about to give up and resign myself to having to plug in to print.
I've entered the IP address, and it does connect enough to turn on the printer.
What I seem to need is some way to add the Canon S750 to the pull down list of printers. Simply downloading the driver doesn't work.

Don't give up yet, dude! For one thing, I suspect that you may need to check the manual for your router/print server or the Canon website. Also, you may not quite recognize the driver's name but it's possible that one of the CUPS drivers is your ticket. Keep plugging!
Have you looked at this page yet?
