Hi- I have Linksys, and I can connect, however, my router will not assing an IP address. I used a default IP address and it worked for a long time. Now... it won't. I can not figure out why. Please help me.

The router is obviously not connected to the internet. You can connect to the router all you want, but if the router has no outside connection then you won't get internet access. Chances are that you are *hint* accidentally turning off your cable modem when you turn off your computer, but leaving the router turned on. In this scenario, the device that provides internet (cable modem) isn't sending an internet signal to the wireless routing device (linksys router) and so you can connect but you won't be able to get internet. In this case, just turn the cable modem back on. But, if you're mooching off of one of your neighbors, tisk tisk. There's nothing you can do about it in that situation. You'll have to live with 56k until your neighbor turns his cable modem back on.

And BTW, shouldn't this be in the Network Forum?

wreckem87, welcome to the MacNN forums! However, as subego pointed out, this thread should have been started in the Networking forum. We'll get it moved there shortly. While you're waiting, start digging up things like the router model number, what computer you're trying to use with it, what OS version, and just about everything else that makes the computer unique. Those bits of info will be very important to figuring out what's up (or down) with your setup.
