Here's the setup: Cable Modem to SMC Barricade to 4 computers all wired. One of those computers (TiBook w/ Airport) is Internet Sharing over it's Airport connection to an AlBook with Airport Extreme. The AlBook can see the TiBook (I can ssh in), but I have no web browsing ability or mail connections available. I can also ping from the AlBook, and it resolves the ip's, but I still cannot browse the web or check email. I can even ssh into my work network, so it appears to be somehow limited to web and mail TiBooks on 10.3.8, AlBook is on 10.3.9.
Any thoughts on making the network work? Thanks. I've been searching the web and playing around for 2.5 hours with no success...

2.5 hours, and then it clicked... why does port 22 work? Because that's the only hole in my firewall! I must have come across many people who had the same problem as me in my searches with no answer. But alas, it was as simple as a firewall problem.
So if you plan on sharing your internet, make sure the firewall on the 'host' computer is open, even for ports 80, etc.

You know, I THOUGHT I heard a nice, loud meaty "THWACK!" earlier. While it's much safer for the user ot have a firewall start out completely closed, it would be a nice idea for the maker to tell you that ahead of time. The software firewall on my PC complains whenever ANYTHING new tries to come in or go out, so I know about it and can decide what it should do. Most hardware firewalls don't bother to tell you.
Congrats on the "fix" and restoring the sharing you wanted to do.

It was a rather heavy thwack in fact. It's a good thing it wasnt me throwing my computer in frustration though
This was the firewall built-in to Mac OS X. So come to think of it I'm a litle suprised. I would have thought that in the internet sharing pane there would be a warning about your firewall. It warns you when you start about disrupting the network - how about a warning about your firewall? Especially since things like IMAP and POP are not built-into the list.
It would make sense...
