I gained 4-5 bars on the original dual 2GHz G5 after the Tiger upgrade. Either reception improved, or Tiger lies about signal strength.
Netgear MR814 router for reference

Some people received it early.
Anyway, back to the topic... if Tiger does improve reception, I'd be very happy. I plan on putting my gateway in my basement when I move next week, and would like to be able to get reception on the top floor.

I think it is just TELLING you that it is better but the signal has not actually increased.

Skywalker is right. The hardware is still the same, the signal is still the same, it's just that the calculations Tiger does to provide the indication on the screen have changed. They probably reflect the fact that the previous calculations were a little bit unreliable in telling you how good your signal was-in some cases you could get 3 bars and still not really connect, while in other cases you could get only one and connect fine.
So Tiger "indicates" wireless reception better, but it doesn't-it cannot-"improve" the reception.

I'm showing more as well. I'm not sure if it's more reliable or better in reception.

My experience has been just the opposite. Profound drop-off in reception since 10.4 installed. Lots of others are experiencing this as well as per postings on Apple forums.

Use the freeware app, 'APgrapher' get it from Version tracker or whatever.. And you'll see that signal strength is in fact..................................
Exactly the same.

According to reports on Macintouch, Tiger did change the Airport signal display. Before Tiger, the number of bars represented signal strength. With Tiger, it's an indication of the throughput of your connection. So if you have a weak signal, but it's still capable of a high bitrate, you'll see more bars than you would have before Tiger. So it's showing the quality of the connection, not just the signal strength.
