Using Airport Express with Charter cable modem

I just got Charter cable internet service (Easley, SC). It seems to work fine connected to my Powerbook via Ethernet, but when I plug the cable modem (Ambit model #U10C018) into my Airport Express, the 'enet' light on the modem flashes for a bit, then goes out. The AX's activity light is amber while the 'enet' light flashes, but then turns green after it has gone out.

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried several different cables, even though the signal is certainly getting through. Should I be using a crossover cable? I thought the AX Ethernet port was smart enough to behave properly regardless of the type of cable.

Never mind. A hard reset of the Airport Express did the trick. After that I only had to powercycle the modem, and everything is working fine.
