Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a static IP for my DSL connection. I would like to host multiple web sites from my home computer. Could I do this...

-update my register.com DNS record to point my 6 different domains to my static IP
-have 1 computer act as a server at my house
-use a firewall at home (linksys) that will route all web requests to my server, which would then identify which web site it is and respond accordingly

Is this possible? Could I use 1 IP to host multiple sites on 1 computer? Would I need to have the firewall NAT the requests to different IP's and the server will respond to that? Would the firewall have nothing to do with it and all necessary configurations would occur on the server?

What approach would you suggest I do?

Thanks :-)

update the NS records. set up your server, paying attention to the virtual hosting sections in the documentation. open up the firewall port 80 and forward it to your webserver.

i would just pay to have my sites hosted by someone else. it's cheaper than hell now, and take the hassles out of running a server. ( security patches, backups, etc... )
