hi

I was wondering if somebody here might know about this:

I have an iMac (dv400 running OS 10.1.5) which is connected to a Speedtouch USB broadband modem

The internet works fine until I connect the iMac to my iBook (clamshell 360 running 10.3.8) with the crossover ethernet cable

Once the two are connected - the internet stops working on the iMac

In 'Internet Connect' it says that it is connected but when I got to view a site in the browser it says couldn't connect.

any ideas what the problem could be?

Yup. Ethernet has a higher priority than the USB modem in the networking preferences, so as soon as the ethernet goes hot, it switches all networking (including internet access) to the ethernet port.

I forget how you can have multiple network interfaces live at once, but wqhat I would tell you is to ditch the USB and get a real ethernet DSL modem and a router (you can also get them combined into one box), and then use ethernet for file sharing and internet access simultaneously.
