I've been trying to improve my upload/download speed, and after running lots and lots of diagnostic tests I adjusted my MTU to something that suits adsl over PPoE. However, all my tests show that path MTU discovery is turned off (which greatly reduces my upload speed, I am on AT&T DSL 1.5mb, upload speed theoretically should reach 128kb/s), but I get a measily 10kb/s if I am lucky).

Is there a terminal command to turn path MTU discovery on? Here are some system stats if they you need them:

iMac G5 rev A. 1.6ghz
AT&T 1.5mb ADSL (run by covad apparently) using PPoE
Connected to a wireless ("g") network using airport extreme card and an airport express (the one with itunes streaming) basestation.
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.1

If you have any other general suggestions/fixes to aid my upload speed, feel free to chime in.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Seems path mtu discovry is set to on by default, wonder why my test shows its off ;/

You can set the MTU in your Network Prefs under Ethernet. The usual number for PPPoE is 1492.
