Please anyone out there know what kind of access point I can get to work for my Desktop G4 667. I am living in a Homestead suites hotel for a few months and they have wireless internet service. I have tried a Belkin with no luck. Thanks

Access point or wireless bridge? What you seem to want is something that will connect your desktop to the wireless network, and while some access points and routers will bridge for you, the majority will not. I'm betting that the Belkin access point you got falls in with that majority.

Just off the top of my head, Linksys makes a product called the WET54G, a WiFi "G" wireless bridge. It is configured through a browser interface, and is designed to do exactly what you seem to need.

Need more info. What exactly did you buy ? Do you have your sawtooth properly setup (in Network Preferences) to receive the signal ? Does Homestead require any sort of login ? Finally, are you sure an "Access point" is what you really need ? Sounds to me like you just need a wireless PCI card to fit in one of the slots of your G4 ... I thought Access Points were for transmitting/retransmitting existing wired or wireless signals, not for receiving them (i.e. isn't an Access point meant to be connected to the signal source rather then the client machine ? What do you have this access point hooked in to ?)

What ghporter says is absolutely correct, but from what I can gather from your post, it sounds like you have an access point set up like a big antenna to receive Homestead's wireless signal an funnel it down to your Sawtooth via and ethernet cable or something. In other words, it sounds like what you have is this:

but what you really probably need is this:

Take a look at WeLoveMacs for some ideas of the kinds of products out there.

All G4 models have AirPort slots. Just get an AirPort (not AirPort Extreme) card off eBay and plug it in.

I was keying in on the speed, not the processor, so I missed what tooki pointed out-maybe because BRO777 had been specific (sort of) in what he was asking about.

You should be able to find an original AirPort card for around $70 on eBay. This is not only the most elegant solution to your problem, but the most reliable; the computer is built for the card, as is the OS.
