Hi,

Found a couple of people with same problem over at Apple Discusions, since upgrade to Tiger (10.4 & 10.4.1), but no fix. "Connect to Server" losing connection

Apple Tech Support not much help either.

Problem:
Mount, connect, to a share on our Windows 2000 Server network, using smb
And after what seems to be a random period of time (from a few minutes to a couple of hours) the shares auto-eject, auto-dismount, auto-disconnect on their own.

Can reconnect/mount no problem, but it will drop off after a random period of time.

Per Win Net Admin, there is no timeout set on server end or other setting that should be causing this.
indeed, did not have this problem with 10.1.4 thru 10.3.8 (did not get to 10.3.9)

AFP is not turned on at Windows Server, and more than likely will not be (only Mac on Windows network).

Is there some setting on the Mac, some setting in a config file, or preference file that could be causing this?

Gets really annoying to say the least.

In addition, whether the Mac (17" PB) goes to sleep or not or how, has no effect on whether shares get dropped or not. If the random time period has passed they get dropped, if not they do not get dropped by PB going to sleep.

Worse, if working on a file (say a Word or Excel) file which resides on the Network, can open, save, change, etc. but right in the middle of working on a file (while I am typing) the shares just drop off (again, if this random period of time is up) ... so then when I go to save I get error message that it can't ... which makes sense as the share just auto-dismounted/auto-ejected/auto-disconnected.

Any ideas?
