Third party "G" routers and access points are WAY less expensive than AirPort units. They also lack the Apple styling. To me, as a poor college student, I go with what I can afford. And while you'll see a lot of horror stories about "my third-party router ate my Mac" and other silly stuff, take them with a large grain of salt. I have never had any problems with Linksys networking at all. I've seen glowing endorsements of other brands, too, including Netgear, D-Link, and others. Read reviews on
PracticallyNetworked.com and make up your mind what you want.
