Hello, I am considering putting all my documents on an external harddrive which could ideally be accessible to all the computers on my network. All my mp3s, docs and iMovies are starting to accumulate.

For some weird reason lately, I've been thinking alot about "if your house was on fire, what would you bring with you"? Well, I suppose I'd bring just the external drive. I have a Sawtooth and a Thinkpad living in peaceful co-existence on my home network.

ANYWAYS....If I buy a firewire drive and activate IP-over-Firewire, would my Thinkpad then be able to identify this new network entitity....or are macs only "smart enough" to sense these things?

If there's some kind of configuring I need to do, I would appreciate your input. I know there are some new drives out there (LaCie, Maxtor) that have ethernet embedded, but I think they cost too much.

thanks in advance.
