Hi all,
I'm a complete noob to networking, and need some help!
This is probably an easy scenario, but I'm confused what I need to buy for one part of the network, and I need to know if it will work at all!
Downstairs:
Incoming line into ADSL Modem
2 laptops (one OS X 10.4 and one WinXP) both with wireless
Upstairs:
1 iMac (OS X 10.3) (with USB printer for printer sharing)
1 PC (Win98)
1 XBOX
1 PS2
Now what I'm planning is to network the 2 upstairs computers for internet access and file sharing with the downstairs laptops. The XBOX and PS2 need internet access for online gaming.
As the incoming line is downstairs, and I already have an Airport Express, the plan is to connect the ADSL modem to the Airport Express downstairs (for the laptops & USB printer sharing) and connect wirelessly to the upstairs wired devices.
What I'm not sure about is:
1) Will this work?
2) what device do I need upstairs?
I guess either a wireless router (like Linksys WRT54GC ) or a wireless bridge with switch (like the Linksys WET54GS5)
But which one?
3) any better way to do this?
I've done a network diagram to show what I mean.
thanks
Nathan

You plan looks good to me. I don't think the WRT54GC will bridge to the Airport Express, but the WRT54GS5 should.

I think you want the wireless router downstairs, connected directly to the ADSL Modem. The Airport Express should go upstairs and be uplinked to a hub or switch. If you had an Airport Extreme downstairs, you could use it as a print server, although I am not sure if the Win machines could print through it.
