Apparently, my AEBS's internal modem (unfortunately, dial-up is the only option currently available here) was destroyed by lightning last night. Everything else survived (that's good), even phones.

But apparently I'm going to have to spend almost $200 to replace the AEBS ($200 I'd rather spend on something else!).

Are there any ways I can test to make sure it's gone? I did restart Airport from the admin utility, but that didn't work. I am able to connect using the same phone line with my PB's internal modem, so I'm assuming the AEBS's modem is gone.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you're having this difficulty. I always recommend using at least a surge suppressor that includes telephone line protection for just this reason. ALL of my computers and related electronics are on UPSs; I don't like to take chances.

I recommend that you unplug the base station and let it sit for an extended period of time-I would go with at least an hour. Sometimes modems get "confused" and stop responding after an overload through the phone line, and removing power for a while allows them to recover.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I meant to ask earlier, too, about options for surge protection, especially for phone lines.

You're right. Both my wife and I were using our laptops, which we always use with surge protection. And back when we just had one desktop we had that modem protect through a UPS, too. Unfortunately, not this one.

I'll post my results here a bit later. Thanks.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. Looks like I'll be placing an order for a replacement.
