hiya, i am having the damndest time setting up my wireless connection, which sucks because i am more than moderately network savvy!
i seem able to connect, but it won't grab an ip.
i am configuring the account only about 12" from the router, so i know this isn't a reception issue.
here is the router config:
>ssid broadcast off (i provide this to the airport config though presumably under "network name")
>128 bit wep
>channel: 6
>key: 3
no matter what i do i can't get my pb to get an ip with from my router. it shows/says that it is connected but without an ip i obviously can't do anything.
this is the first time i have actually used the airport wirelss config, since my imac is wired. is there a disconnect between the way my linksys wireless router is setup and the information collected in the airport config (e.g. i don't see anywhere for me to put in the channel or key).
thanks for any help i appreciate it.

Your laptop should "see" the network and offer to connect automatically. However, there's a problem with using any key other than key 1 under WEP. Even if all 4 keys are identical, if you specify a key other than key 1, the Mac will either not connect at all or fail shortly after connecting. Try changing the router to use key 1 and see if the Mac works for you.
By the way, what router are you using? Not only is WEP sadly insecure, its replacement, WPA, is much easier to set up. If the router supports WPA, that is THE way to go.

thanks! switched to key 1 and it worked right away. i know wep sux, but i have a few other devices that don't support wpa so i am out of luck there until i replace them (hopefully soon).
btw, pretty weak on the airport configuration side to not allow other keys! why in the world did they do something like that!??!?
thanks again for the help.
