im trying to get access to my shared folders on my PC so I can get music and other files from it. I've looked online at a bunch of tutorials and **** that all basically say the same thing but I can't get it to work. I have my shared folders on my PC set up to share on the network and to allow users to change files. My pb has personal file sharing and windows sharing activated and I am in the same workgroup in the SMB/CFIS thing in the directory access utility. So I go to Finder -> Connect and i enter "smb://ipaddress/foldername" and it doesnt connect. I have also tried "smb://computername/foldername" and it says "the finder cannot complete the operation because the data in "smb........" could not be read or written. (error code -36)."

can anyone help?

By default both Norton and Symantec firewall products block EVERYTHING. For the most part, they tell you when something is trying to connect in or out, but they don't do much more than tell you which software module is doing the trying (note to Symantec: translate some of this stuff! Help out the customer!). File sharing is more than just a port; it's a protocol that most firewalls pay attention to, and with good reason. They could ALL be a little clearer to the user when something is happening.

Glad you got things working.
