You'll want to buy a Router. I would recommend a Linksys W54G.
The router will get the IP, and then the other two computers will connect to it. The router will then assign additional IPs to your computers just for networking at home.
This will also allow you to hook up however many computers you want to the internet since the Router is doing all the work. It acts as an intermediary between your computers and the internet connection (a DSL or cable modem.)

You could set up an FTP server on each computer, one with a different port. Then open up those two ports.
But that's dangerous.
A safer way would be to set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) but I don't know how expensive that would be.

You would have to set one computer to be accessible from the outside on port 548, and if your router supports it, you would then have to setup the second forwarding address so that it went from another port (say 549) on the outside to port 548 on the inside computers address. Not all routers support this.

When you enter the computer's address in the Connect To Server dialogue, try appending it with a colon then the port number, e.g: 17.254.0.91:549
(assuming your IP address is 17.254.0.91 and you have forwarded port 549).
