Hi!

I bought an iBook 800 mhz on eBay, but it doesn't know it has an airport card. The card doesn't show up in System Profiler, and if I try to use Airport Setup Assistant it tells me I don't have the hardware I need.

I have an iBook 500, and I swapped the cards. The new card works in my 500, but my old card doesn't show up in the 800. So it looks like the card definitely works. I have reseated it several times, reinstalled the OS, etc. (I am running Panther on it, but I also tried reinstalling the system from the diks that came with the 800, which was 10.2) No joy. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Does your iBook 800 come with the Apple Hardware Test CD? I would try that first.

Thanks for the suggestion, Kenneth. The results were interesting: everything passed the hardware test (including airport and the logic board), and it also recognised the airport card! But System Profiler and Airport Setup Utility, etc still don't know it's there. System Profiler says "No information found". Any suggestions?

Since the layout of iBook G3/500 and G3/800 are basically the same, I wonder about the connection between the AirPort card and the connector.

You can bring it to the Mac Genius and see what's going on.
