I purchased a new iBook G4 and Airport Extreme base station a few days ago, and am now setting up a wireless network. I have a DSL connection, my ISP supports Airport, and I have a Dell desktop running Windows XP Home. The Dell and the DSL modem are both hooked up to the base station, and there is a wireless connection: both my Dell and iBook can access the internet (the iBook wirelessly).'

THE PROBLEM: Although each has Internet access, I cannot "see" or access either computer's files from the other. I have scoured the Internet many times, found nothing. I spoke with an Apple store technician twice, and each time he said I had everything set on my Mac.

Possible solutions, or even a couple of comprehensive reference links would be great!

Thanks!

Two words: File Sharing. On the Mac, turn it on in System Preferences. On the Dell, decide which folder or folders you want to share, right click on it/them and choose Sharing. Read and follow the simple instructions and you're done, though you should restart the computer just to make sure the share is properly recognized.

Sapper46123,

Did you get this to work? Another thing to consider is your 'workgroup' name. On the PC, go to "System Properties" (control panel or right click on my computer) and view the computer name tab. It should have a workgroup name listed. It should match the Mac for easier networking.
http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/ma.../18/samba.html is how to set it on the mac.
