Okay

Every 30 mins or so the LAN port on my ae base station will stop routing to my desktop.. the wifi users do not lose internet just the desktop.. the only way to begin recieving internet again is to reset the cable modem..

Is my ae basestation going bad? I did recently recieve a new cable modem from my isp. When i daisey chain a wired router between teh modem and the ae bs connection is never lost to the desktop...

NE ideas?

If messing with the cable modem fixes the problem then it ain't your AirPort Base Station. You seem to have answered your own question though-connecting that wired router beteen the modem and the base station handles a number of chores that are probably overwhelming the cable modem (or it's been set up not to do them, such as providing more than one connection). Keep the router.
