I have the Linksys BEFW11S4v2 802.11b router, attached to a Motorola Surfboard 4220 cable modem. My PowerBook is connected wirelessly, my PS2 is connected with a cable.

Every now and then my internet connection stops working. I can still connect to the router, and the cable modem indicates that it still has an established connected. But I can't connect to the internet through the router, on my PowerBook or my PS2. Power cycling the modem does nothing. Power cycling the router fixes the problem, until it happens again. Very annoying! The router didn't previously exhibit this behavior, it only started recently since I got Comcast HSI. I'd rather not have to spend the money to replace the router unless I know it's the cause (I'd probably want to get a wired router and just buy some long cables...).

To me, it almost sounds like an issue of the Comcast connection being temporarily dropped. Many services will automatically disconnect you after a period of inactivity and then the next request from a client of the router will cause the modem to go through its "login" to the service again which delays that request by a good bit.
When it goes out, does it go out indefinitely until you cycle the router or does it just go out for a minute or so ??

Indefinitely.

And it's not during periods of inactivity, necessarily. Yesterday I was using the internet (Adium and Safari) when it stopped working, two separate times.

I should add that for about a month with Comcast I was NOT using the router and never had this problem. If the Comcast connection were dropped the modem would most likely indicate this with its activity lights.
