Hi,

This may not be the right place but I know that many people use WRT54G so i am hopeful of some reply.

My linksys supplied power adapter is not working so I am planning to buy another one. My vendor may not give me replacement b'se I dont have a UPS and power surge may be a problem.

Which one should I buy? AC adapter or DC? When I went to the shop, I was told that AC adapters are used for modems. As far as I can thin, the router needs DC 12V, 1000mA input so I must require a DC adapter.

I am in india and vendor is not educated plus he has confused me as he is selling AC adapter for all people who want for modems and PC etc. he has even written 'for modem' on the box of the AC adapter. I am afraid that if I plug in this adapter in my router, it may damage so want some opinion.

The WRT54G manual says AC adapter and in the tech specs, mentions 12V DC, 1000mA input!!!

any suggestions?

Linksys power adapters are fairly robust and are typically rated for a pretty big output; I have one rated at 1.2A output.

Contact Linksys and see if they'll replace your power adapter. They used to have a program to do just that here in the States-they replaced the adapter for my first router that was bad only because the router power connector wire got crimped and stopped making good contact. Go here to see how their replacement program works.
