I've just bought a g5 imac, already have a powerbook & an airport base station.

The imac is wirelessly connected - I'm having connection speed issues with it - video isn't smooth from a mounted fileserver - if I put the powerbook in the same location its fine.

I'm thinking it may be related to the wireless standard, ie 801b/g or whatever they are. Is there a way to tell exactly what protocal it is using to connect, I mean do the new G5's support a newer standard, the older but not the middle one ?. Or do they just have poor wireless performance in comparison to the powerbooks.

This belongs in Neteworking. Read the forum banners on the main page befor you decide where to post something, ok? AirPort is almost completely separate from the OS anyway...

On my airport express there is an option to specify what methods are allowed. I would just set it to only allow a g connection and see if that improves.
