I got me a router because our isp has changed there service plans and now only allows 1 ip address.
I picked up a Belkin Dual-Band A+G Wireless router. i couldnt get one that was better than it because it didnt support macintosh systems.
The router seems to want to just stop now and then and it takes about 30 secs for it to do anything.
I do not know what to do im trying everything.
I disabled all wireless connections to the router.
I have fixed my subnet address (it didn't have the correct one).
I have set it up so only the 3 computers on the router can connect to it (MAC address filtering)
I have even disabled the firewall for a day and nothing seems to make a difference
is there any solution to my problem. i have not even had it a week and im ready to rip the $100 router out of the wall and throw it into the river.
Thank you for any help.
ps.. while editing this i it timed out.

Who's your ISP, and are they cable or DSL? (It does make a difference...) My guess is DSL, by the way.
P.S.: Just because Belkin (or anyone else) says their router doesn't support Macs, don't believe it. Macs are more standards-compliant than even Linux (don't mention Windows!), so they WILL work with any standards-compliant network device. What they probably don't do is provide a "simple and quick setup wizard" CD that runs on a Mac... which is no great loss anyway, since all they do is walk through the setup, ask a couple of questions, and then make the settings YOU could make through your browser anyway.

Interesting... With DSL you usually have to change a setting (the MTU) in your router to keep from running into speed and timeout problems, thus my guess that you were on DSL.
Have you tried doing a reset on the router? Usually just turning it off (or unplugging it) for a few minutes and then powering it back up will make a big difference in functionality.

could i try that option? i dont see anything saying mtu... and no aberrations i see.
ill give the router a reset after i double check for that mtu.
just one question though. will reseting the router reset the admin password?
-never mind... ill just create a backup of the settings... im new to a router and just saw that.

Reducing your MTU from the cable-default 1500 to something like 1436 or 1372 (subtracting 64 once or twice) could help. Somewhere in the Belkin manual there should be a mention of changing the MTU for the router. What Mac OS are you running? Since at least 10.2 (probably much earlier) the OS checks the path and sets the computer's MTU accordingly, so all you'll probably have to worry about is the router.
